Now let us discuss about 5 rules of cooking according to Ayurveda. These rules are very important to follow when eating.

Top 5 Rules of Meal According to Ayurveda

Rule 1: Eat bite by bite

We should eat food bit by bit. There is a saying about this, ki – khao cum chabaon zyada. According to Ayurveda, while eating, or eating any food, after taking a single bite, it should be chewed 32 times. And if it is not possible to bite 32 times, then at least 20 times should be eaten. This does not mean that you will start counting your meals. In simple words, we should bite and grind the food so much that the food should be able to be swallowed through a relaxed throat. By doing this, the food eaten will be easier to digest. And the benefit from food will be complete.

Rule 2 : Maintain balance of food, water and air in the body

According to Ayurveda we should fill our stomach with 50% food, 25% water and the remaining 25% for air. This makes food easy to digest and improves our digestive system. And getting rid of diseases by improving health.

Rule 3 : Do not eat after sunset

According to Ayurveda, one should not eat after sunset. Because after sunset, the fire in our stomach slows down. And the ability to digest food decreases. For this, food is eaten more in the afternoon because the sun shines at this time.

But in today’s lifestyle it is impossible to do so. That’s why you should eat 4 hours before going to bed. You decide your meal time according to your routine. For example, if you sleep at 11 pm every night, you should have dinner at 7 pm. That is, there should be a gap of about 4 hours between eating and sleeping time.

Dinner should always be light to digest. And should be less and lighter than lunch.

Rule 4: Eat natural food

Ayurveda says that the food we eat every day should not be kutrim. That is, fruits and vegetables and grains should be cooked and eaten in their original form. And that which is packaged, the food in which the preservative is obtained, and kept in the refrigerator for a long time. Do not eat such food. Because such food is harmful to our health.

Eat raw vegetables, fruits and salads as food at one time in your meal time. And if it is convenient or you can afford it, you should eat the sprouted seeds and grains early in the morning.

Rule 5: Eating sequence or cycle.

According to Ayurveda there is a sequence of meals. Which we should follow. There are 6 tastes in our diet. Which should be used in your diet in order. The meal should start with a sweet dish. But according to today’s custom, we eat sweets at the end of the meal. And this is wrong.

After eating sweet, we should eat sour. And after eating sour food, eat salty food, and after eating pungent food, eat bitter food. And at the end of the meal we should eat astringent food. That is to keep order in food as follows.

  1. sweet
  2. Sour
  3. salty
  4. spicy
  5. bitter
  6. astringent

If you are healthy, you should use the above 6 juices in your food. And if you are not in good health (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) then you should use these juices in food accordingly.

If you follow all these 5 rules then many stomach diseases like heaviness, gas, constipation, dysentery will go away and you can save yourself from various such diseases.
